And Iran Air is testing its new, state-of-the-art 747s, hoping to expand its US service from New York to include a direct flight from Tehran to Los Angeles.
In the 1970s, Tehran was the Dubai of its time, a pulsating center of creativity and energy in the Middle East. In the shadow of the Alborz Mountains (filled with ski resorts), a gleaming metropolis at the intersection between East and West was emerging, filled with miniskirts, a visit from Elizabeth Taylor, and Andy Warhol's new portrait of the glamorous Empress Farah Pahlavi, known as the Jackie Kennedy of the Middle East.
